An AI Assistant That Actually Does the Work

• Run commands from a prompt. “Check disk usage and find the largest log files” — the AI executes df -h and du on the remote host and reports the findings.
• Edit remote files with surgical precision. “Change the service port from 8080 to 9090” — it reads the file over SFTP, applies an exact replacement, writes it back, and shows you the diff.
• Troubleshoot like a senior engineer. “Why can’t I reach port 3306?” — it runs ss -tlnp, inspects the logs, and delivers the analysis.
• Drive device CLIs. Over Telnet or serial, the AI reads the screen to recognize a firewall or switch, sends commands, and waits for the prompt — handling paging and Y/N confirmations politely.
• Research while it works. Built-in web search and library-documentation lookup (Context7) let it combine fresh knowledge with live execution.

Everything happens inside your live terminal session. Commands are injected into the real terminal pipe, so you see each one execute exactly as if you’d typed it yourself. No black box, no hidden scripts — full transparency, full trust.

Safety Is the Design, Not an Afterthought

• Three permission modes. Ask confirms every action; Smart auto-runs read-only commands and gates every write; Full runs everything — except danger.
• Dangerous commands are always gated. rm -rf, mkfs, dd, shutdown — these require your explicit approval in every mode, including Full.
• Approve, allow, or whitelist. Approval cards offer Deny / Allow / Always Allow. The whitelist honors wildcards and takes effect instantly.
• You type, it yields. If you start typing while the AI is working, it pauses gracefully — you never fight over the keyboard.
• A shell-audit engine parses every command before execution, fail-closed: if it cannot prove a command is safe, it asks you first.

Your Model, Your Rules

WxTerm works with any provider compatible with the OpenAI (Chat Completions), Anthropic (Messages), or Responses API protocols — DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, or a fully local Ollama for complete privacy. Pull model lists online, test connections, and switch models per conversation. Keys are stored locally with 0600 permissions; conversations go only to the provider you configure — nothing else phones home.

Replies stream token by token, with a live “thinking” display for reasoning models. Sessions live as tabs with full history, survive disconnects, export to Markdown, and compact their context automatically — a lightweight pass first, then a structured digest — so long tasks never hit the context wall.

• MCP (Model Context Protocol): plug in external tool servers with per-server approval policies — the ecosystem of AI tools keeps growing, and WxTerm grows with it.
