WxArc
ToolsCompression and extraction, the way they should be.
You open archives every day: downloads, projects from colleagues, backups from years ago. Yet too many tools are bloated and slow — or left their interface in the last century. WxArc has one purpose: bring archiving back to simplicity. Version 1.0 is here, crafted by Oupula Tech.
A file tree that shows everything
Open an archive and WxArc lays out every directory as one clear tree. Check a folder and its whole subtree comes along; tri-state checkboxes tell you where selected content still hides. Want the entire archive? Select nothing and just start. Only one folder? A single click. Even a thousand entries are no challenge — type a keyword and the matches appear instantly, flattened before your eyes.
Thirteen formats, ready to open
ZIP, RAR (RAR4 and RAR5), 7Z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.XZ, TAR.ZST, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ZST — and macOS PKG installers. Whatever tool packed the file on the other end, you simply open it. Multi-volume RAR and encrypted headers included.
Six formats, ready to pack
When it’s time to share: ZIP for universal compatibility, 7Z for a tighter squeeze, TAR.GZ / TAR.BZ2 / TAR.XZ / TAR.ZST as the lingua franca of the Unix world. Add multiple files and folders at once, pack them together. (Under the RAR license terms, WxArc opens RAR archives but does not create them.)
Encryption handled. Safety built in.
- AES-256: encrypted ZIP and 7Z archives open without friction. Mistyped the password? It simply asks again — no starting over.
- Garbled names, restored: legacy ZIP files store names in local encodings; GBK mojibake from old Chinese Windows setups is automatically decoded back to readable text.
- Quietly blocked: path-traversal (Zip Slip) attempts during extraction are intercepted — malicious entries cannot escape the destination folder.
Smart extraction, no more clutter
What’s the worst part of extracting? Dozens of files scattered everywhere. WxArc decides for you: if the archive contains a single top-level directory, it extracts right where you are; otherwise it creates a subfolder named after the archive. Your desktop stays clean.
Silent, swift, never frozen
Every compression and extraction job runs on a background thread — the interface never freezes. While a large archive unpacks, you can keep browsing, searching, switching themes. The progress bar shows exactly which file is being processed.
An interface that is yours
Forty-two carefully tuned themes, dark and light, switch in an instant. Font family and size adjust freely, kind to long sessions. English and 简体中文 today, with more languages on the way.
At home in your system
Install WxArc on Linux and the right-click menus of Nautilus, Dolphin, Nemo and Caja gain “Extract” and “Compress” entries immediately; Windows context-menu integration works out of the box too. Prefer the command line? --extract-here performs smart extraction and --compress opens the compression dialog — scripting flows naturally.
Rust at its core
WxArc is built with Rust: memory-safe, sharp in performance, free of garbage-collection pauses. Settings and logs live quietly in a single ~/.wxarc/ folder — no registry writes, no scattered files.
Try it now
Linux, Windows or macOS — the same lightness and elegance follows you to any desktop. Open your first archive and you’ll see: archiving was always meant to be this simple.
